Agriculture

We consider agriculture key to reducing hunger and poverty in rural areas and a driver for sustainable food supply in the country

While Uganda has progressively undergone social and economic growth and transformation, the country remains at risk to inclusive economic growth. The country is ranked 159 out of 193 countries, according to the Human Development Report 2023. Despite its agricultural potential and significant exports, Uganda’s food insecurity levels remain classified as ‘serious’ by the 2023 Global Hunger Index, posing further challenges to the country’s ability to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 2 on Zero Hunger. Our focus will be on empowering smallholder farmers (women, youth and men) to achieve a sustainable living income by 2030 through a community-led development approach, prioritizing locally-driven solutions to address hunger and poverty while caring for the environment, with a strong emphasis on climate-resilient practices and market access initiatives across various regions where we operate.
